About Vacation Reading List I started this site when looking for books that, like mine, were set in vacation spots. The listing is not comprehensive. Keep in mind the site is a hobby site and a work in progress. Jane Kelly The basics To be included books have to be set in a place where one is (i.e. I am) likely to go on vacation. New titles are being added on a regular basis. I am working from east to west across the US and then around the world. All books included are set in spots where you might go on vacation -- although the locale may not be strictly defined as a vacation spot only. This site includes series and non-series titles. It is NOT an exhaustive list of books by setting, author -- by any criteria. I found these books in bookstores (used and new) and in a variety of reference sources. I have not seen all the books, let alone read them. This is not a list of recommended titles. These are simply books you might want to check out. This site will help you find mysteries set in particular locations or particular types of locations. For example, if you are going to a beach resort you can check for books set in that location (e.g. Cape Cod) or books set in similar locations (e.g. Beach). . More features will be added as time permits. Who would want to use this site? Anyone who's interested in learning about a location they are going to visit can do so by reading fiction. If you're on vacation, fiction set in a town is a good place to find things to do, places to visit and places to eat. You may also pick up some little known lore about the spot you are visiting. Some of the books might be set in historical times. Even if you're going on a business trip, the information you find in fiction can make you feel more comfortable with the locale. How do you find the books you want? Books are listed in a variety of ways. For example, If you click on Beach you will go to the top of a list of book titles that are set in beach settings. The name of the author and the setting are given. Location types include special headings for events (e.g. beauty pageant) and activities (e.g. skiing). Most of the books have state indicators but not all. Exceptions include books in fictional settings and books set outside the US. |
